PBS Professional Featured in Desktop Engineering's Editor's Pick of the Week

Workload manager's ability to manage diverse computing assets lauded by Editor at Large DUBLIN, NEW HAMPSHIRE, USA — Desktop Engineering (deskeng.com) announces that Altair Engineering's (Troy, MI) PBS Professional 11.0 for HPC (high-performance) and cloud-based computing workload management was selected its Editor’s Pick of the Week for December 8, 2010.

“PBS Professional is a workload manager intended to increase your software utilization and help improve overall productivity as well as your ROI by giving you the tools to [manage] distributed assets – hardware and software,” says Anthony J. Lockwood, editor at large for Desktop Engineering.

PBS Professional offers “faster scheduling, faster job submission, and faster cold starts” than earlier versions says Lockwood. “PBS Professional 11.0. [also] supports GPU (graphic processing units) configuration and scheduling. By enabling your disparate CPUs and GPUs to function as a unified computing platform, PBS Professional 11.0 can increase your application speed and lower power requirements dramatically.”

“Channeling [the raw power of HPC and cloud computing] to maximize productivity and your investment is no easy thing,” says Lockwood. “PBS Professional could save you a heap of hassles by providing you the tools to develop the intelligent policies to manage mixed-vendor hardware and software assets efficiently.”
