Size Optimization in Two-Wheeler Tubular Frame combining OptiStruct, MotionSolve and HyperStudy

The importance of light weight frames in automobiles is well known but becomes even more important in electric vehicles for direct gain it brings in range. Topology Optimization followed by Size/Gauge optimization very early in product life cycle serves as an effective method to determine the optimal material distribution path and tube sizing at the initial design phase itself so that the frame can be designed at an optimal level before heading to validation phase. It is usual practice to perform size optimization with 1D beam model. However, stresses due to geometric complexities including welds, and joints are not accurately predicted with the beam model and hence the optimization results are in a crude state. The method explored in this study explores using high fidelity durability model to perform size optimization which will increase the accuracy of the results.

Guide to Mitigating Credit Risk

Risk assessment is crucial for any enterprise that extends credit to customers. Commonly known as credit scoring, the process helps lenders make confident, informed decisions on whether prospective customers will honor their debt. Credit scoring is typically associated with the banking and financial service sectors, but is required across a wide array of businesses, including telecoms, retail, and insurance. In most cases, credit scoring isn’t just a business tool, it’s a regulatory necessity. And credit scoring is a vast industry. In the U.S. alone, recent consumer debt valuations hover over $14 trillion. Credit scoring is a complex task that involves wrangling a diverse range and large volume of data. Based on predictive modeling, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is well established and widespread. And because of the data burden, credit risk firms were some of the earliest organizations to adopt the technology. As such, the credit risk sector can claim to be a pioneer in AI and ML utilization.

Unlock the Power of Data

Data in all its glory, but the real challenge lies in generating value from the data. We all know that semi-structured data like PDFs and text files, or even structured sources of data is useless unless we can extract the relevant information and visualize it in an understandable way. Compaines around the world collect a huge amount of data every day. This data would be a fantastic source of information for decision making, if we could only make it understandable for us. This is where most companies loses the battle. Combine data from multiple sources is necessary for nearly every department to get accurate answers to critical questions. Manually cleaning, joining, transforming reports for reconciliation takes an enormous amount of time, is repetitive and error prone.

Designing for Sustainability - Reducing the Carbon Footprint with Embedded Carbon for Large Scale, Hybrid Timber Structures

Bush Bohlman was required to perform the structural analysis and timber design for the British Columbia Institute of Technology, (BCIT), student plaza, a pedestrian and public transport user gateway for the institute. The structure needed to establish a strong campus identity with a biophilic design and demonstrable support for sustainable building practices while ensuring structural safety according to local design codes. The hybrid mass timber structure consists of a Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) canopy, CLT columns, and steel columns. By using S-TIMBER, the engineers were able to simulate the complex two-way bending behavior of the cantilevering roof panels and asymmetrical column layout. Having the model in S-TIMBER allowed for changes to be analyzed and re-designed, without the need to manually design individual timber and steel elements. S-TIMBER's design reports presented the design calculations concisely, yet transparently, for faster and easier reviews.
